Canon Powershot G7 digicam announced
The Successor of Canon PowerShot G6: PowerShot G7 priced
at $ 550.

The much anticipated Canon PowerShot G7 is out. Following the success of PowerShot G6, this classically styled PowerShot G7 has an advanced features set that include 10.0 mega pixel resolution, a stunning 6X optical zoom lens and Canon's image processor, the new DIGIC III.
The new DIGIC III is a rapid performer with improved image quality and incorporates two new Canon technologies - Face Detection AF/AE and advanced Noise Reduction, which extend the camera's low-noise performance to ISO 1600. Canon says that the Powershot G7 will have 25 shooting modes (including 2 full manual modes) or presets - that is quite a handful of features of a compact digital camera! Video recording is a necessary feature for small digicams, and that's offered too.
Canon offers a high-resolution 2.5” LCD screen which has a wide viewing angle and anti-glare coating for easier image framing and playback.
The PowerShot G7 is equipped with hot shoe support for Canon Speedlite flash units and is compatible with a range of optional converter lenses to ease the potential for creative photography. The PowerShot G7 will hit the market in early October.
Any negatives we can see? Yes, there is no RAW file support. This should not matter to amateurs, and one can say that the more serious ones would anyway go for a DSLR which would offer it by default.
The initial price of the G7 in the US market is expected to be $ 550 - that should come down by at least 25 % a couple of months after the October 2006 launch.
