Exceptional Innovation launches Lifemedia, high-end digital home media server

26 May, 2007

Exceptional Innovation, makers of Lifeware, has announced the release of its new Lifemedia Server, a high-end digital home entertainment server.

The Lifemedia units, with multi-core Intel processors, up to 4.5 terabytes of storage, and high-end optical audio with Dolby Master Studio decoding, are ready to integrate with home networks and EI’s Lifeware home automation software, according to a press release from Exceptional Innovation.

The Lifemedia Servers are optimised for both digital entertainment and comprehensive home control.

Using benchmark internal components and the look and feel of a high-end AV receiver, Lifemedia provides from 500GB to 4.5 terabytes of storage for digital music, movies, pictures, and recorded television as well as instant access to Lifeware’s complete home control via the user’s home network.

The servers come in configurations that include Digital CableCARD, NTSC or ATSC tuners. DVD RW Drive-HD-DVD and BluRay versions are on the cards.

The Lifemedia Server line brings together the very best technology for high-definition entertainment with the most advanced automation solution available, says Mike Seamons, vice-president of marketing for Lifeware.

The Lifemedia Server line includes five models, ranging from a set-top to a four-rack unit ultra-high performance edition. All models run on Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Operating System, and offer a range of Intel chipsets and processors.

The company claims that Lifemedia has strived for the perfect balance between an elegant AV-style back panel and the open flexibility of using standard PC industry components. The MediaPlate design (patent pending) makes Lifemedia the most upgradable entertainment console in the market, according to the company.

Lifemedia is easy to mount on a standard AV Rack but quiet enough to be installed in a room, can be connected to the customer’s network, peripherals, and serial home automation devices in minutes. Its Windows Vista operating system is up and running quickly, and it is pre-installed with Lifeware home control software.

The price of the Lifemedia Server will start at US $4,500 and will be available from the summer of 2007.
