StarCraft II - the sequel of hugely popular StarCraft on
its way
22 May, 2007 Blizzard Entertainment, the video game
company, has announced that its is planning to launch a
sequel of its popular game StarCraft. The computer strategy
game StarCraft had been a huge success with gamers around
the world and the news that StarCraft is making a comback in
a new version has made South Korean fans of the game and
gamers around the world happy.
The first version of StarCraft, which was released in 1998,
sold more than 9.5 million copies worldwide. The first
version featured a science fiction environment, where two
alien species were pitted against humans. StarCraft is today
described as the national game for Koreans below the age of
40.
Top gamers in South Korea have the same celebrity status
like that of film stars and other media celebrities. Lim Yo
Hwan is an example.
Thousands of gamers had gathered in the Olympic Gymnastics
Arena in Seoul for Blizzard’s 2007 Worldwide Invitational
StarCraft tournament and the company chose this occasion to
announce that it is working on StarCraft II.
The game company Blizzard Entertainment is a subsidiary of
French Vivendi. While most games today focus mainly on game
consoles like Microsoft XBox 360 and Sony Playstation,
StarCraft works on desktop PCs.
Blizzard Entertainment, based in California has not
announced a launch date for StarCraft II, but there are
rumours that the game will not be released this year.
StarCraft II will run on both Windows and Macintosh PCs.
