The most awaited game console from Sony, the Sony PlayStation 3 has gone on sale - finally. The fans of the Play Station can by the game console from the Internet, though the PS 3 will be launched officially on November.

The offer is only for the Europeans and the consoles are available as pre-orders for a price of £550 ($1,020) at online shop, www.play.com . The site expects an European shortage and says that hence, it cannot guarantee a delivery before Christmas. The main competitors of the Sony PlayStation 3 are Microsoft's XBox 360 and Nintendi Wii.

Sony PlayStation 3 is the successor of the highly successful Sony PlayStation 2. The Microsoft XBox 360 is already available in the market and Wii is expected to make a launch this year itself. The three new game consoles promise cutting-edge technologies and exciting graphics.

Sony is the market leader in the home video game market with over 100 million play stations around the world. Sony had earlier planned the launch in Spring, but were forced to delay the launch of the console because of the problems associated with its Blu-ray format discs.

The Sony PlayStation 3 is available in 3 models, the entry level one with a 20GB hard drive and the high-end one with a 60GB hard drive. The 60GB model comes wih Wi-Fi, a slot for memory cards and a HDMI port for high-definition programs.

Customers can buy the 60GB PS3 model from play.com. Though the console can be bought through the site, customers will have to wait till the end of this year to buy a console from the shops. The Play Station 3 is expected to reach the hands of the Japanese gamers on November 11, but the US and European fans will have to wait until November 17th to have their consoles.
