Movies and wrestling via Xbox Live, courtesy MS

Software behemoth Microsoft Corporation is all set to sell Hollywood flicks and television shows that can be downloaded via its online video-game service XboX Live. These movies can be beamed straight on to television sets.

For this, Microsoft has teamed up with a handful of Hollywood studios. Starting Novemeber 22, Xbox Live users with the latest console will be able to choose from popular telly shows such as South Park which is currently on air on MTV's Comedy Central and CSI, currently on CBS Corp. The movies that can be downloaded through the Xbox Live console including Warner Bros’ V for Vendetta and Paramount Pictures' Mission Impossible III, the company said.

Microsoft has also signed agreements with Turner Broadcasting System Inc. and Ultimate Fighting Championship, a privately held Las Vegas company that primarily broadcasts pay-per-view fights. This is besides the deal with entertainment majors such as CBS, MTV Networks, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Viacom Inc's Paramount. Though the deals were announced, the money involved in the deals were not made public.

It is being estimated that that around 750 hours of programming would be available as soon as the service launches and roughly 1,000 hours by the end of the year.

The hi-definition programming will be available through the Xbox 360 console to any user of Xbox Live's free or paid online service, which allows gamers with broadband connections to send text or voice messages to each other, and watch movie trailers and other product demonstrations.
