Invisibility cloak to use metamaterials
All you have to do is invent metamaterials, and the invisibility
cloak would be ready!
Scientists have laid down the blueprints for an invisibility cloak, just like that of
Harry Potter's. Though the high tech invisibility cloak would be a whole lot different from that in the Harry
Potter book, it would proably do the same thing - hide its wearer
from onlookers.
The theory behind the new invisibility cloak is that, light or electro magnetic radiation can bend around objects covered in exotic materials, which
in turn will make it appear as though it is not there. In other
words, it achieves the purpose of invisibility.
The substances that would be used for the cloak would be metamaterials, which will have electromagnetic properties because of their structural mix. Since the technology now, is so powerful that it can be structured to very nano-particle scale, light can be bent precisely around a particular object. Scientists at the Imperial College and Duke University have indeed found that such an invisibility cloak is possible, well at least in theory.
The other use of this theory would be to improve transmission of electromagnetic signals around obstacles. This can also be tuned to steer sound waves for perfect acoustics.
As the theory is now in place, the next step would be to take it to the next level. Funded by the Defense Department research organ DARPA, the invisibility cloak team are already on their way.
