Skype and Vapps team up to better call conferencing
Skype and Vapps have teamed up to offer customers a better call conferencing facility. From now onwards 500
participants on call conferencing can take part in a single call with the help of a VoIP service from
Vapps called VoIP vendor Vapps.
Skype users can avail the facility by logging on to www.highspeedconferencing.com
where they can sign up for free to get chat rooms. Those who are participating in the call conferencing facility can also use the traditional phones for the Skype conferences. If you ar using traditional phones for conferencing, then long distance charges may apply.
The service is free for all Skype users. Skype had earlier rolled out a scheme for free calls to all landlines and mobile in the U.S and canada under the SkypeOut program, which is free. through this move, Skype expects more penetration for its software in North America. Also Skype hopes to have more attention from the people for its premium products and services.
Skype also has a service called Skypeln using which users can from any landline or mobile can make a call to a Skype phone. In addition to its software products, Skype also sells hardware products such as VoIP-related hardware. Skype also manufacturers a speakerphone, a box that can be used to convert traditional phones to Skype phones, and a converter box for multiple users.
Rebecca Swensen, a VoIP services analyst with IDC, said, "Doing this helps them gain some market share in the market for enterprises and small businesses. I'm sure Skype is trying to get them to see that using Skype in their sales departments is a lot cheaper that [traditional] telephone service."
