Symantec releases patch for flaw

2 days after a flaw was discovered in Symantec's Antivirus corporate edition and Client security version 10.x, a patch is released.

The patch for the Symantec antivirus software flaw has been released. The flaw was found out last week by eEye Digital Security.

The editions which were affected by the flaw were AntiVirus Corporate Edition version 3.x and its Client Security version 10.x. The same company's Norton's products were not affected by the flow, which was rated as critical.

The vulnerability was found to allow hackers access a remote PC even without the opening or closing or any of the programs. To defend the flaw, Symantec has now released Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) signatures via Live update for Symantec client security.

But computer security experts fear that the hackers would still be able to reverse-engineer the signatures and get a blueprint of the vulnerability. Symantec has requested the users of the affected software to apply the update / patch for the flaw as soon as possible.

Though only the English version of the patch has been released, patches for other Internaional languages are being worked upon.
