Microsoft to slash 148 jobs in the US
Microsoft is restructuring its organisation to make it more nimble and responsive to market needs.
Microsoft announced last week that it will be slashing a total of 148 jobs in the US.
According to the Microsoft spokesman, 214 jobs will be eliminated but 66 will be added. Employees whose jobs will be slashed will be able to apply for the 66 new opportunities.
Microsoft is restructuring its organisation to make the company more fleet-footed. In recent times, Microsoft has been facing a lot of competition from Internet companies, such as Google, that are increasingly providing more and more solutions online.
The restructuring is aimed at making Microsoft more responsive to consumers and react quickly to market changes.
Cost-cutting measures are being adopted by Microsoft, where it is eliminating jobs and getting the work outsourced. However, overall, Microsoft is also beefing up its head count in more productive areas and providing benefits such as child-care benefits to retain valuable employees.
