Mozilla Firefox 2.0 alpha 2 release
Download and use this only at your own risk - it's an alpha release, and please don't think you can sue the Mozilla Corporation if something goes wrong.
If you are a normal human being, please don't download alpha releases - even if they are of
Mozilla Firefox 2.0 alpha
2. Not for you. Let the ones with a deathwish do such stuff - you, you just wait till they post their reviews on the Net.
Anyway, to keep you calm till then, here's the basic info that we could find on the Mozilla website.
1. Links default to opening in new tabs, not new windows
I think that means we can forget pop-up windows, and get pissed about pop-flat tabs. Opera already has them, I think.
2. Close buttons now appear on every tab, and the close behavior is slightly different
Hmm. Useful, no need to all the way to the right corner to close a tab. By the way, this is an IE innovation! Even Opera has this, I think.
3. Inline spell checking in text boxes
Well, useful for some I say.
4. Automatic restoration of your browsing session if there is a crash
Good and bad. Good, because if you really needed all that stuff, it would be good to have it appear back when you start Firefox again. On the other hand, what if you were watching sites which were not exactly family - appropriate? You have to bloody ell start it again so those tabs can take you to those extreme
wbesites, and then close it once again so they are gone forever. A pain.
Here's the rest of the changes in the Firefox 2.0 alpha release. Nothing earth-shattering, if you ask me.
5. Search suggestions now appear in the search box auto-complete for Google and Yahoo!
6. New search plugin manager for removing and re-ordering search engines
7. Improved support for previewing and subscribing to web feeds
8. New microsummaries feature for bookmarks (Really interesting new feature)
9. New Add-Ons manager improves the user interface for managing extensions and themes
10. Updates to the extension system to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions
11. New search service that supports Sherlock and OpenSearch engines
12. Support for SVG text using svg:textPath
