Vongo portable movie service from SEG and Toshiba

SEG Vongo movie subscription service launched.

Now movie fans can download their favorite movies on to their portable device and enjoy the fun. Starz Entertainment Group and Toshiba America Consumer Products will go to a deal to make such a dream come true. 

The new service will be called SEG Vongo. For the latest models from Toshiba Gigabeat Portable Media Center, Vongo will be the leading content provider. The techology behind the Gigabeat Portable Media Center is that of Microsoft Portable Media Center v2 platform.

Joe Cantwell, vp marketing, advanced services, SEG said, "You could see us work on other platforms, but we do have technical performance and consumer experience requirements. The device needs to interact seamlessly with the host computer. It has to be plug-and-play. And deeper specs involve the management of the files and honoring our relationship with the studios."

The charges for the subscription service are fixed at $9.99 a month for unlimited access to a rotating selection of about 1,600 TV and movie titles. The user can also choose the option of pay-per-view for individual titles at $3.99 each. 

The users can download the movie of their choice and can be viewed either on a TV., PC or a portable player like Toshiba Gigabeat. Cantwell said, "We don't want our subscribers to have to worry about synching, file location or file management. This is seamless."

Two models are available for the Gigabeat PMC, the 30GB and the 60 GB. The 30GB model costs $300 and the 60GB model costs $400. The main features are a 2.4-inch QVGA color screen with 320x240 resolution, an FM tuner and an option to transfer the images directly from digital cameras.
