Toshiba 1089 is Microsoft Zune: Pictures from FCC
filings
So Microsoft has taken Toshiba's help in making the Zune.
The Toshiba 1089 filings submitted to the FCC include the
Zune name, pictures and details.

If you thought pictures of the Microsoft Zune digital media player look very similar to the Toshiba Gigabeat S media player, you have something right. Toshiba will make the Zune digital media player for Microsoft - at least the first model. Microsoft is believed to outsource the development of the player to Toshiba as Toshiba has some portable Windows media centers which have been well-received in the market.
The filings at FCC show that Microsoft Zune / Toshiba 1089 will have a 30GB hard drive, an FM tuner, and a three-inch low temperature polysilicone display screen.
The Zune players will have Wi-Fi, and will use a network named Plyxis using which a user will be able to stream music to four other Zune players in the vicinity. That should be interesting - if the Zune become spopular, we might see zombie-type youngsters standing around looking dazed while they all listen to the same music on their headphones. Another social networking feature? Looks like it. The wireless connection will enable users to share not only individual music tracks, but also pictures and entire
albums.
Microsoft has already confirmed that the Zune will be made by Toshiba, but haven't provided any additional details. A company spokeswoman said that a filing made by Toshiba for a portable audio player named 1089 to the Federal Communications Commission is for the Zune.
Earlier, Microsoft had said that to take on the iPod's established position in the music player market, they might take up to five years. Apple's iTunes currently hold 70 % of the market share for personal digital music players.
