DKIM - new way to keep away spam

26 May 2007

DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), a new initiative to fight against spam and phishing, has received industry approval. DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is a method of validating the identity of the incoming mail.

Spammers operate by hiding their true identity by using a false, or spoofed, address in the numerous messages that they send. In the new DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) system, a digital encryption signature technique is used to check the authenticity of a mail.

Companies such as Yahoo, Cisco, Sendmail and PGP Corporation have vowed to help roll out the new technology. E-mail authentification is expected to become more scientific with the invention of DKIM system.

Eric Allman, co-founder of messaging service Sendmail, said, "DKIM is an example of major players coming together to do the right thing, sacrificing short term competitive edge to ensure safety, security and trust on the internet".
