Google Reader is here to stay

Google updates its fledgling web-based ATOM and RSS feed reader.

The updated new Google Reader got a new look - it looks stunning - and a lot of new features that we think you'll like. After a lot of feedback from the users, some usability research and examining all the ways that people consume content on the web from feed readers to email clients, Google has come up with an updated Google Reader.

Google Reader offers a relatively clean interface and some JavaScript wizardry that accommodates a wide range of reading styles. It is definitely fun and easy to use. And yes, it now looks a bit more like Ask's venerable Bloglines feed aggregator service as well as Newsgator, its well-established competition.

New features include Unread counts and "mark all as read." A Folder-based navigation making it easier to organize your subscriptions, and the new expanded view lets you quickly scan over several items at once. The sharing is much easier now with a single click of the "shared" icon, you can publish an interesting item on your public sharing page for your friends to see. Subscribing to a feed in the new Google Reader is as easy as typing the the URL of the website, and the site's main feed will be auto-disocvered by Google Reader. Nifty stuff. You can of course manually subscribe to a feed as before.

Check out the video by Chris (one of Google Reader engineers) at http://www.google.com/reader/view/  It is quite fun and easy to understand more about the Google Reader.
