Opera launches Opera 9 web browser with BitTorrent support

BitTorrent makes its way to the new Opera 9 browser.

Opera Software has officially launched the new Internet browser, Opera 9. The new browser has built-in features for widgets, has a new security toolbar and has support for the BitTorrent file-distribution system.

Opera had earlier released the preview of the browser which included widgets and support for BitTorrent. Widgets are small snippets of code that serve the purpose of plug-ins. 

Jon S. von Tetzchner, chief executive of Opera Software said, "For Opera 9, we worked hard to push the limits of what people expect from a Web browser, with increased speed, new Web standards support and innovative features such as widgets and BitTorrent. Even though we shaped this browser for the Web's future, we have the powerful features people want and need for their surfing today. I truly feel Opera 9 has something for everyone." 

Opera has a site for Widgets and Widgets can be downloaded from the site. Opera already has collected some, like the circular version of Tetris, several clocks, and a built-in reader for comics sites.

To prevent phishing attacks, Opera has included a new security toolbar. Google had earlier introduced a similar plug-in to prevent phishing attacks. Opera also says that it has taken steps to strengthen its pop-up blocker. Using the new Opera 9, users can also save sessions. We can also restart the same site, which was open at the time of closing. We can restore a save session from the "trash can".
