Yahoo Autos Green Center

The Yahoo Autos Green Center is dedicated to alternative fuel vehicles.

Yahoo! is taking giant steps in reviving its lost ground to Google. After adding up Tech and Food to its LifeStyle category on its homepage, Yahoo! has gone one step further. It has caught up with the latest buzzword BioDiesel.

On Wednesday Yahoo! announced a new Yahoo Autos Green Center, website devoted to alternative-fuel vehicles. Consumers can be rest assured of comprehensive, unbiased, data about petroleum-shunning cars and trucks. The new website also covers all the communities that have sprung up around them. The Green Center is also offering information about purchase incentive programs and stations for alternative fuels such as bio-diesel made from vegetable oil. To prove their point Yahoo has collaborated with a California custom car group are going to set a grease-powered vehicle land speed record on November 12. In a bid for record, a six-cylinder twin-turbo car operating on bio-diesel will be piloted at top speed on El Mirage Dry Lake bed in Southern California. Recently, Yahoo converted its employee commuter shuttles that go between San Francisco and its Sunnyvale, Calif., headquarters to run on biodiesel. Rivals, Google and Microsoft reward incentives to employees who are planning, using or opting to buy gas-electro cars, solar energy or another eco-friendly steps in a bid to conserve environment.

So what does Yahoo Autos Green Center has to offer?

Well, quiet a few things actually. Yahoo Autos Green Center will be offering information about alternative fuel vehicles. The best part is now you can go online and check the Green Rating of your car. The Green Rating will be provided for all makes and models of cars. For this unique feature Yahoo Auto with the non-profit Environmental

Defense to develop a proprietary Green Rating that can be used to determine the environmental impact of any car. Senior Fellow for Automotive Strategies at Environmental Defense John DeCicco said that US consumers could now think

of Yahoo! Green rating as a yardstick to measure the greenness of their cars and how well a care cuts pollution. He added that the Yahoo Green rating covers all of the major environmental impacts associated with a motor vehicle, from health-harming tailpipe pollution to greenhouse gases that cause global warming.

How does this Green Rating work?

The Rating starts from a scale of 1 to 100. It is designed in a simple and easy to understand, higher the green rating, greener the car and the lower its harm to humans and the planet and vice-versa. The Green ratings are based on vehicles' greenhouse gas emissions polluting exhaust fuel economy. Consumers will now be able to choose the greenest model that meets their needs and fits their budget. Not to forget that they go on to show that they care for the environment.
