Name of Project : ProjectsToday CD data
browser and projectstoday.com
Client : Economic Research India Limited
Industry : Economic research
Functionality : This project has two parts:
1) Projectstoday.com website. 2) Projects Today data browser.
Projectstoday.com is a subscription-only site, constantly
updating itself on the industrial projects investments in
India. This portal maintains a database of over 6000 live
and ongoing projects in India. Projects listed on this portal
are government and private projects. The portal provides
facilities to search project based on various search criteria
like project size, location, implementation stage, industry
etc. Apart from this, this portal also provides information
about tenders and statistics.
Projectstoday CD Data Browser on the other hand, provides
the same information as an installable application on CD.
As the site is updated, the application updates itself by
downloading data patches. Additionally, it also provides
enhanced search features, document and report exporting
options, dynamic data downloads from the web server. Back-end
application to support data updates for this CD based application
is a patch creator, which creates a data patch, downloadable
by the application itself.
While those with internet connections prefer the Web version,
the data browser is available for those who want faster
querying and results, and require to use it only on one
desktop machine. The ProjectsToday site/data browser is
also available in an enterprise edition for use over an
intranet.
As a tool for corporates and industrial houses in India
to keep track of the investments in India, the The ProjectsToday
site/data browser serves as a valuable tool.
The back-end for this portal were developed on VB 6.0 and
SQL Server 7.0. The portal administration modules include
database updation and maintenance modules, data validation
modules. The other back-end module was the reporting system.
This system included aggregate reports based on number of
projects and cost. Cross Tabulation reporting module (this
was implanted by me as an ActiveX DLL) and Quarterly Review
reports were also developed.
