Microsoft releases Antigen email server antidote
Microsoft is hailing the launch of its new server-based e-mail security products as a milestone for the company. The Microsoft's new approach to security includes some of the common and biggest names in the security market, other than Symantec and McAfee.
In 2005, Microsoft had acquired a company called Sybari software, which made security products. Microsoft's new Antigen e-mail security products are mainly based on the enterprise anti-virus and anti-spam products from Sybari software. Microsoft will release a security kit on July 1st which contains Antigen for Exchange, Antigen for SMTP Gateways, Antigen Spam Manager and Antigen Enterprise Manager.
In its Antigen security antidote, Microsoft includes multiple scan engines and multiple antivirus programs. The scan engines which comes with the kit are that of Kapersky Lab, Sophos, Norman Data Defense Systems, CA, VirusBuster, AhnLab, Authentium and MailFilters. It also employs the antivirus software from Microsoft itself.
Ted Kummert, corporate vice president of the Security, Access and Solutions Division at Microsoft, said, ""Customers are faced with the challenge of providing the best possible protection for their e-mail users and maintaining the availability, uptime and performance of this mission-critical application. Antigen's unique multiengine solution integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Exchange Server to provide customers with the benefits of layered protection, while minimizing cost, complexity and impact on performance."
